What are your office hours?
My office hours are Monday – Thursday, 12 pm – 5 pm, and every other Sunday from 12 pm – 3 pm.
How long is a typical session?
Initial assessment sessions can range from 50- 60 minutes. Follow-up sessions are 45 minutes.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not accept insurance and am an out-of-network provider. Insurance does not cover sex therapy services; most don’t cover couples/family therapy.
I pride myself and my practice on upholding privacy and confidentiality. Sex therapy can go into some deep areas that people don’t feel comfortable sharing out loud. So, when utilizing insurance, a mental health diagnosis is required to obtain reimbursement, and the insurance company must know a lot of information to ensure that coverage is warranted.
If your insurance company believes your care is unjustified, they can request to review all your records at their discretion to make this determination. Reviewing all records puts the therapeutic process at risk of being prematurely terminated or modified to meet and justify the insurance criteria. This requirement jeopardizes your privacy and confidentiality.
I want the therapeutic process to involve only the client and therapist in a secure and safe space. However, if you decide to utilize your out-of-network benefits I have partnered with Thrizer, a payment application that handles this process automatically for you so you can pay only what you truly owe for our sessions.
We will first check to confirm you have out-of-network benefits. If so, I will use Thrizer so that you are only charged your co-payment for the appointment.
How it works:
- I will email you a link to set up your Thrizer account
- Set up your Thrizer account by adding your insurance information and connecting a payment method
- Review your out-of-network benefits and estimated co-pay to clarify any questions you have
- I will charge you via Thrizer for our appointments
- If you choose to pay in full and wait for reimbursement instead, you can track claims from your Thrizer account. Insurance reimbursements, when issued, are deposited directly to your bank account.
Using out-of-network benefits still puts your care at risk of being reviewed by insurance and still requires a diagnosis, which becomes a part of your permanent healthcare record.
How do I make an appointment?
Do you have a cancellation policy?
How long will I be in therapy?
Do I have to tell you everything?
Do you offer video or phone sessions?
Is our work confidential?
What is the difference between individual therapy, relationship therapy for individuals, and couples therapy?
All sessions start with me explaining my therapy process and reviewing new client paperwork. I then assess by gathering information to understand better the problem area and what needs to be explored and processed. I pose a series of questions to determine a baseline, recommendations, and, if time permits, goal setting. If not, then this will take place in the follow-up session.
Individual relationship therapy is like individual therapy, but at times, it may be beneficial to bring your partner in if necessary. And sometimes, it can transition into couples therapy.
For couples therapy, I meet with both parties for assessment. For the following two appointments, I meet with the parties separately for further evaluation. If necessary, we will do additional sessions individually before reconvening to coupes. If not, the fourth session and follow-up session involve couples again. I am happy to comply if you need to meet with me individually.
